Fruit of Knowledge

“Fruit of Knowledge” is the third in a series of works that I call “The Ubiquitous Religion”. It’s just my small reflection of mankind’s dependence, relationships, and reactions to technology and science.

The parable says that Eve offered Adam a fruit from the tree of knowledge. The fruit itself held the power to give knowledge of all things good and evil. After eating the forbidden fruit the two became truly aware for the first time. They knew of shame, evil, virtue and honesty as well as the difference and weights of each. This knowledge cost them paradise.

Technology is the same way. We can not progress without it yet it is a double sided blade. A computer chip can process patent records or launch codes. Atomic energy can give an entire city heat and energy or wipe it out in a matter of moments. I believe that mankind seeks out technological progress, regardless of these risks, because it is our nature to seek out knowledge even if it means losing paradise in the process. Ironically, it is also my belief that one of the ultimate goals of technological progress is to create the perfect world, to crate paradise on our own terms.
