“The Microcosmic Egg” is the fourth in a series of works that I call “The Ubiquitous Religion”. It’s just my small reflection of mankind’s dependence, relationships, and reactions to technology and science.

Throughout history there have been many theories regarding the beginning of all things. One such creationist theory is that of the “cosmic egg”. In such myths it is often suggested that mankind, the world, the universe or even god were born of a grand egg. These theories are understandable considering the power the egg has as a social symbol representing fertility, birth and life.

While it is miniscule compared to the scale of all existence, I feel that mankind is approaching an “egg” moment of its own in the field of bionics and AI. Every day, we come closer to redefining what it is to be alive, what it is to be human. Every year, more artificial implants are created or conceived to fix or enhance our physiology. Every year, artificial intelligence becomes a little less artificial. When these two fields finally mature and meet, we may be faced with artificial life.

Strange how we have these "signature" spaces when we can't sign our names on it.

I suggest maybe watching "Ghost in the Shell", a scifi movie in which people can transfer their "ghost"(mind/soul/whatever you call it) into a robotic body, while a complex computer program gains self-awareness, questioning what it means to be human.
